FORNEY, Texas — A single-vehicle crash Thursday morning sparked a grass fire, caused power outages to the area businesses and residents, and resulted in one person being airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on the north service road of U.S. Highway 80 just west of Marketplace Boulevard.

Live, downed power lines and standing water hindered rescue efforts as emergency personnel awaited emergency Oncor teams.

The driver of the vehicle was later transported by ground ambulance to Baylor, Scott & White Medical Center in Forney for further transport by a CareFlite medical helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Oncor’s Outage Center is currently reporting 565 customers are without power due to the crash.

This is a developing story.
