FORNEY, Texas — Last Friday, contractors and City of Forney Public Works representatives provided updates on construction in downtown Forney on Main Street and Trinity Street.

The representatives say the updates and proposed timelines are all subject to change with weather or unforeseen utilities on the decades-old streets — an issue plaguing the Trinity Street project.

Main Street

On Main Street, crews are expected to finalize construction on the south side by the end of this week and will then alternate to the north side of the street.

Last week, crews were finalizing sidewalk concrete pouring and had opened approximately 75 percent of all available parking on the south side. Once work transitions to the north side of Main Street, traffic will remain one-way in the same westbound direction it is currently configured.

Crews will begin the removal and storage of commemorative pavers in front of City Hall as construction crews begin the process of re-pouring the sidewalks on the north side. Those pavers are expected to be either replaced as they were or moved to a proposed landscape bump out with flags on Main Street.

Construction on the north side of Main Street is expected to take at least two-and-a-half months.

Trinity Street

Crews were finalizing driveways on the south side of Trinity Street last week with grading and excavation expected to begin soon on the north side of the street. Traffic will likely switch to the new pavement in two to three weeks.

Construction on Trinity Street has been plagued with utility relocation due to the grade of the roadway being cut down approximately two feet from its current elevation.

Weather permitting, and without any other utility hold-ups, the project is anticipating substantial completion in September 2017 with only small, punch-list items remaining.

The City of Forney is hosting a Trinity Street Forum on June 5 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. to allow residents to address their concerns with the project. The forum will be held at Crumbzz which is located at the corner of Trinity Street and South Bois D’Arc Street.

South Bois D’Arc Street

Construction on South Bois D’Arc Street will begin after the Main Street project is complete. Unlike Main Street, both travel lanes of South Bois D’Arc Street in the immediate downtown corridor will be closed and traffic will be detoured.

Specific timelines were not immediately available and will likely be determined in future meetings between the City of Forney and its contractors.

The proposed detour, at this time, is Broad Street, to South Chestnut Street, to College Street.

inForney.com will continue to follow updates on these projects as they become available.
