FORNEY, Texas — A driver escaped injury early Thursday morning after her vehicle caught fire while driving on U.S. Highway 80.

Around 2:30 a.m., the woman was driving eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 when, for yet to be determined reasons, her car caught fire. She was able to exit Farm-to-Market (FM) 460 in Forney where she came to a stop near the FM 460 overpass and safely exited her vehicle.

The incident sparked a grass fire in the median of U.S. Highway 80 just west of FM 460.

A brush truck from the Forney Fire Department tackled the grass fire and an engine crew extinguished the car fire.

A fire marshal with the Forney Fire Department is investigating the vehicle fire.

Separately, and at the same time, firefighters from Station 2 worked a single-vehicle crash on the south service road of U.S. Highway 80 near County Road 212.

No injuries were reported in the crash. The Forney Police Department is investigating. At least one person, possibly two, were arrested on unknown charges.
