FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a vehicle fire which occurred Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 80.
At 3:49 p.m., the Forney Fire Department responded to westbound U.S. Highway 80 just west of County Road 217 after several 911 callers reported a vehicle fire on the shoulder of the highway.
Nearby construction workers used a fire hydrant to extinguish the initial fire prior to the fire department’s arrival on scene. Firefighters then hit some hot spots in the vehicle’s engine bay and inside the vehicle near the dashboard.
Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle, which is registered out of Terrell, Texas, left the scene prior to firefighters' arrival.
The Forney Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
The Forney Police Department also responded to the scene.
No injuries were initially reported in the incident.
