Dryer fire in Forney sends one to hospital

FORNEY, Texas — A dryer fire in Forney sent one person to the hospital and displaced two people early Sunday morning.

FORNEY, Texas — A dryer fire in Forney sent one person to the hospital and displaced two people early Sunday morning.

Just after midnight, a resident in the 600 block of Summerhaven called 911 after seeing smoke emerging from a neighbor’s home. The caller also alerted the neighbor of the possible fire.

When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the southwestern corner of the home where they discovered a fire in the laundry room. The fire was quickly extinguished but not before it had damaged parts of the laundry room and adjacent rooms.

Firefighters removed a charred washer and dryer, the likely cause of the fire, from the laundry room.

This is the third dryer-related fire in Forney in the past week, according to Forney Fire Department Captain Phillip Pyle.

One of the residents was transported to Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, by CareFlite ambulance due to smoke inhalation.

Two residents of the home will be displaced overnight, according to officials.

On Friday night, one person was airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital due to smoke inhalation suffered during a dryer fire at the Gateway Cedars apartments.
