TALTY, Texas β Eastbound Interstate 20 in Kaufman County is closed due to a wind-blown overturned 18-wheeler which sent one person to the hospital.
Just before 1 a.m., an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound was crossing over the Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 overpass when it was blown over by high winds.
The 18-wheeler slid on its side for a couple dozen yards before it came to a rest across both eastbound lanes.
βIt came over the bridge and blew over like a piece of paper,β a witness traveling behind the 18-wheeler told inForney.com.
The driver became entrapped in the cab and was lifted by firefighters to safety. He was later transported to Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite, Texas, with what were described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The trailer was loaded with approximately 8,000 pounds of medical supplies.
The highway is expected to remain closed for at least another hour. A heavy-duty wrecker is on scene and has uprighted the 18-wheeler.
Eastbound Interstate 20 traffic is being diverted onto the service road at FM 1641.
