KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas, is warning of elevated fire danger on Friday afternoon across the north Texas region.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for counties west of the DFW metroplex but the NWS is advising residents should avoid outdoor burning across the region.

A fast-moving drilling is expected to move east across North Texas following scattered showers and thunderstorms around daybreak, according to the NWS.

“Afternoon high temperatures will climb well into the lower 80s with gusty southwest winds 15 to 25 mph,” stated the NWS. “The gusty and dry conditions with humidity values in the teens in the highlighted area will result in possible high to critical fire weather conditions.”

“Avoid outdoor burning of any sort Friday afternoon, not just in the watch area, but all across the region,” stated the NWS.

People should also avoid outdoor welding, campfires, and tossing lit cigarette butts from any moving vehicle.

“Any fires will ignite and spread quickly!” stated the NWS.
