‘Exchange Zone’ opens at Forney Police Department to facilitate safe online exchanges

FORNEY, Texas — An “Exchange Zone” has opened at the Forney Police Department to help facilitate a safe area for online exchanges.

FORNEY, Texas — An “Exchange Zone” has opened at the Forney Police Department to help facilitate a safe area for online exchanges.

Three parking spaces have been designated by blue paint and signage in the parking lot of the Forney Justice Center near the front of the City of Forney Municipal Court. These spaces will be recorded 24 hours a day.

“The area is meant to provide a safe alternative to other meeting locations, such as private residences, shopping centers, or gas stations, and to deter potential criminal activity,” the department stated Thursday morning.

Similar locations were established at the Terrell Police Department at their new police headquarters building located at 1100 N. State Highway 34 and at the Kaufman Police Department’s temporary location at 2950 South Washington Street.

Two people were recently indicted in the armed robbery of a woman in Forney who was attempting to sell a cell phone at her house through the buy/sell app “Let Go.” One of the alleged suspects in the case was arrested the following day in connection with a separate aggravated robbery in Mesquite.

Police say the use of a safe exchange area reduces the risks of such incidents due to the availability of police and video surveillance.
