CRANDALL, Texas — Firefighters from Crandall, Scurry, and Kaufman extinguished a house fire in the Crandall area overnight.
Just after 10 p.m., firefighters received a report of the fire in the 2000 block of Sonesh Circle which is located between Crandall and Scurry southeast of Murphy Lake.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire and smoke to half of the house and immediately made entry to sweep the house for any residents — later determining the residents were not home.
A neighbor tells inForney.com they kicked in the door and screamed in search of any occupants. Overwhelmed by smoke, and not hearing any responses, they evacuated the house.
The same neighbor said the residents were in the process of remodeling the home and were seen there earlier in the day.
Approximately half of the house suffered fire, smoke, and water damage. Firefighters made a hard stop on the fires progression preventing further damage to the remainder of the home.
In addition to the Crandall, Scurry, and Kaufman Fire Departments, the Seagoville Fire Department responded to the Crandall fire station on standby.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office.
