TALTY, Texas — Firefighters, on Tuesday afternoon, extinguished a roadside fire along Interstate 20 as fire weather concerns increase this week for portions of west and north Texas.

The Forney Fire Department responded to and extinguished the roadside fire on Interstate 20 near Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641.

A burn ban is not currently proposed in Kaufman County but, elsewhere in Texas, fire weather concerns are increasing, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards says a burn ban is not currently proposed as commissioners are set to meet on July 3rd. Restrictions may be considered next month.

"The rest of the week will be hot and mostly dry as high pressure builds across the southern US," stated the NWS.

"Fire weather concerns increase Wednesday through Saturday west of Interstate 35 due to humidity values falling below 30 percent, hot temperatures, drying vegetation and winds of 10-20 mph," stated the NWS. "Obey Burn Bans and local proclamations, and take precautions to avoid the start and spread of wildfires such as don't toss cigarettes on the ground, don't drag tow chains on the ground, don't park or drive over tall grass, and don't burn unnecessarily."
