FORNEY, Texas — The First Baptist Church (FBC) of Forney will host a groundbreaking ceremony on August 20 for a new church expansion, “Higher Ground.”
The groundbreaking ceremony and celebration is scheduled for Sunday, August 20, 2017, from noon until 3 p.m. in the Prayer Garden on the east side of Building B.
The ceremony will coincide with a “Back-to-School” Food Truck Picnic with outdoor baptisms, music, food trucks, and other events.
The new facility will allow an additional 2,000 attendees, for a total of 5,800 people in the building at one time, according to FBC Communications Director Bonnie Warren.
“The center will convert into two full court gyms and a walking track,” stated Warren. “This will allow us to serve even more members of our community through our children, student and adult sports ministries.”
“Other additions include a beautiful new atrium style lobby and welcome center, additional church staff offices and storage areas, as well as additional parking and new covered entry ways,” she said.
The approximate 60,000-square foot expansion will bring the total square footage of the church to approximately 160,000 square feet, according to site plans submitted with the City of Forney. The church’s current footprint on College Avenue is 98,291 square feet.
Worship services on Aug. 20 will 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. with the groundbreaking ceremony to follow the last service.
