Former Kaufman County Justice of the Peace Eric Williams' removal of office has been made permanent after his trial court appeal for burglary and theft by a public servant in 2012 was upheld in the Fifth District of Texas Court of Appeals in Dallas.

Williams now faces trial in the murders of Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, and his wife, Cynthia McLelland, earlier this year. Eric and his wife, Kim Williams, are both in the Kaufman County Jail charged with the murders.

Judge Johnny Perry was previously appointed to fill the Justice of the Peace position by Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood pending the outcome of the appeal. The temporary appointment of Judge Perry has now ended and the Kaufman County Commissioners' Court is tasked with filling the vacancy until the next general election.

The Commissioners' Court will be accepting applications through 4:30 p.m. on October 23, 2013, and a special meeting will be held on October 25, 2013, to interview applicants and appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
