FORNEY—On Tuesday evening, the Forney City Council adopted the 2024-2025 tax rate, setting it at $0.405240/$100 valuation.

The Council voted to move forward with the staff's proposed rate of $0.405240, which differs from the Council's proposed rate of $0.424379. Four council members voted to approve the rate, with two council members, James Traylor and Sarah Salgado, voting against the rate adoption.

The Council also adopted the city’s 2024-2025 budget. According to the budget posted on the City’s website by Deborah Woodham, the Director of Finance, the Forney tax base has grown to 133% in the last five years.

“The property tax base in Forney has continued to grow at a rapid rate with a 133% increase in values in the last 5 years. The increased values and early redemption of debt have allowed for a decrease in the property tax rate of just over $0.13 in the same period.”

The budget document also notes that sales tax revenues have increased an average of 16.58% over the past five years. The budget includes just over $29M in salaries and $4M in maintenance and repair.

Moving to the Capital Purchases Fund, the City anticipates purchasing four police vehicles, seven CID vehicles, a Fire Station Number 3 generator, and a rental property inspector truck, among other things.

Amongst the General Capital Improvement Fund, the city has set aside $65,000 for wi-fi at the community park, which has sparked debate on social media. Also included is $450k for additional tennis courts.
