FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Arts Council and the Forney Historic Preservation League have partnered to host a 3rd Thursday Evening event at the Spellman Museum themed after the museum's traveling or rotating exhibits.
FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Arts Council and the Forney Historic Preservation League have partnered to host a 3rd Thursday Evening event at the Spellman Museum themed after the museum's traveling or rotating exhibits.
The first event in the series is scheduled for tomorrow night, Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Spellman Museum located at 200 South Bois d’Arc in downtown Forney.
The 3rd Thursday Evenings at the Spellman Museum are free and open to the public and will also feature hands-on activities, guest speakers, demonstrations, films, crafts, music, food and drink, and more.
This month’s exhibit at the Spellman Museum is the Literary East Texas exhibit from Humanities Texas which honors the work of 25 authors selected from more than 200 who have lived in and written about the eastern half of the State of Texas, according to Spellman Museum Manager Kendall Milton.
“This expansive part of Texas allows for a variety of settings from the Red River to the Piney Woods and the Gulf Coast,” stated Milton. “Passages of their works are illustrated by photographs taken especially for this exhibition by Nell Blakely.”
“As the brochure states, ‘the goals of Literary East Texas are to encourage readers to discover and rediscover writers of the region, to match the words of these authors with photographs of the people and landscape they described, and to honor representative writers of the region.’” stated Milton.
Specific craft activities during tomorrow night’s event include a book blind date, decorating journals and bookmarks, and book signings from local Forney authors including Mike Farris, Arlene G. Stein, Brian Moreland, and Elizabeth Lawless.
On March 16, 2017, the 3rd Thursday Evenings event is themed “Southwestern Nights” and, on April 20, is themed “Forney History.”
