FORNEY - At the June 4th Forney City Council Meeting, the Council approved a resolution entering into a Master Professional Services Agreement with WSB Engineering to find solutions for a bridge over the Union Pacific tracks.
As per the agreement, the study area will span 1,500 feet north and south of the Union Pacific tracks, specifically at the West Broad/US 80 intersection with FM 548 on the east. The study's primary focus will be on providing grade separation options that will allow for two lanes of traffic in each direction.
WSB Engineering is a Minneapolis-based company that has worked on several projects in Texas, including I-10 in Katy and Melissa Road in Melissa.
Under the agreement, WSB Engineering will have numerous responsibilities. Their responsibilities include data collection, a comprehensive traffic and safety analysis, and identifying transportation concerns associated with the lack of grade-separated crossing connecting north and south Forney. They will also facilitate meetings with key stakeholders such as Union Pacific Rail Road, TXDOT, the County, Council, and the public during an open house forum, ensuring a transparent and inclusive process.
The study is expected to take 12 months, and the estimated cost is just below $1M. Upon its completion, this project could reduce traffic congestion caused by the train passing through downtown.
