FORNEY, Texas — The Forney City Council will hold two public hearings on Tuesday night for annexation proceedings related to the annexation of the Luminant power plant — Kaufman County’s largest tax payer.

Both public hearings will be held at Forney City Hall during the city council meeting scheduled for Tuesday night, June 21, 2016, and will be held at approximately 6:30 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. City Hall is located at 101 East Main Street.

In April, the city council took action to being the annexation process of the Luminant power plant, formerly the NextEra Energy’s Forney Energy Center.

The City of Forney and the power plant are currently in a 10-year agreement, effective June 2014, in which the city agrees not to annex the property in exchange for a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes — nearly $23 million over 10 years.

This is a developing story.
