FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Combat challenge team, a five-member team composed of firefighters from the Forney Fire Department, completed their fastest time and took several top placements at the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge in Little Rock, Arkansas this weekend.
FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Combat challenge team, a five-member team composed of firefighters from the Forney Fire Department, completed their fastest time and took several top placements at the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge in Little Rock, Arkansas this weekend.
The teams 2nd place finish in the relay event on Saturday was the team’s fastest recorded relay time at 1:13.68. Team Tuscaloosa won the relay with a time of just over two seconds faster, 1:11.04.
In the team competition, Forney Combat took 3rd place with a total team time of 5:48.32. Team members times were as follows: Russell Bannister with 1:37.07; Brian Leathers with 2:05.39; Darren Yarborough with 2:05.86; Chad Baker with 2:40.76; and David Lawson with 2:40.92.
“We would like to thank our family at Forney Fire for all the support and prayers,” a team statement on Facebook read. “Thanks to our sponsor Mr.Restore for all that they do for us as well.”
The team clinched a World Finals qualification last month at the Sulphur Springs competition with their first ever podium placement in relay. The World Challenge XXV which will be held in Montgomery, Alabama, on October 24 through 29.
The team is selling raffle tickets for an upcoming raffle which aims to fundraise to assist the team in travel related expenses. Raffle prizes include Rtic cups, a Heritage .22 revolver, a Bushmaster AR-15, and a Boss Buck 200-pound gravity protein feeder.
The raffle drawing will be held on October 2, 2016. Tickets are $10 per ticket or $25 for three. Tickets are available for purchase by contacting a team member or at Central Fire Station located at 104 East Aimee.
