Forney FD, Red Cross step in to provide assistance to two dozen residents without power

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department and the American Red Cross of Kaufman County have stepped in to help more than two dozen residents who have been without power for two days.

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department and the American Red Cross of Kaufman County have stepped in to help more than two dozen residents who have been without power for two days.

Those residents, some 22 trailers in the Summerhaven RV Park, began losing power on Monday night around 5 p.m. When Oncor crews evaluated the outage later that night, they determined there was a safety issue with the electric connections powering those trailers and were forced to pull the electric meter until repairs were made to the electrical distribution box.

Residents say property management didn't answer their calls for assistance on Tuesday when an elderly resident was taken to an area hospital due to heat exhaustion.

It wasn’t until earlier today that property management answered their calls and dispatched an electrical team to make the needed repairs.

Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend says the power will likely be restored tomorrow but, in the meantime, generators have been setup throughout the RV Park to temporarily power resident’s air conditioner units.

The American Red Cross of Kaufman County also responded and is providing cold water, Gatorade, and cooling towels to residents, among other things.

Kasey Venner, a resident, says her concerns were for the elderly residents and a few young children. She says the current situation is much better with the fire department and Red Cross’s assistance.

The electrical repairs are expected to be complete by tomorrow afternoon. Oncor is also planning to install a transformer to service the RV park separate the mobile home operations. Power is expected to be restored tomorrow evening if all goes as planned and with inspection approval.

The Forney Fire Department reserved three hotel rooms for several elderly residents, some with medical issues or small children.
