FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department will be accepting donations for the victims of last weekend’s tornadoes, the department stated Wednesday.
The department and its volunteers responded as mutual aid on Saturday night after a number of tornadoes swept through Van Zandt County and the surrounding area — answering the call alongside several other Kaufman County area fire departments and law enforcement agencies.
“While the FFD will be glad to accept any donations from residents, we have received word from first responders in the Canton-area that clean-up items are desperately needed,” stated the department. “Items that are being requested include tarps, rakes, shovels, gloves, wheel barrows, and any other essential clean-up items.”
The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are also accepting cash donations. Additionally, a tornado relief fund has been established at the First State Bank in Ben Wheeler, Texas, under Van Zandt Tornado Relief 2017. Donations to the fund can be made by calling (903) 833-5861 or by mail at P.O. Box 97, Ben Wheeler, Texas, 75754.
“Volunteers are also being requested to either help with the clean-up effort or donate time at the Recovery Center located at the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds, 24742 SH 64 Canton, Texas,” stated to the department.
