FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department received a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), according to Interim City Manager Charles Daniels.
FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Fire Department received a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), according to Interim City Manager Charles Daniels.
“The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations,” according to FEMA.
Daniels says the $98,550 AFG grant will be formally accepted by the Forney City Council at their next regularly scheduled meeting on July 5, 2016.
“Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards,” states FEMA.
Forney Fire Department Fire Marshal John Holcomb says the grant will fund 15 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) packs including masks and air tanks as well as 15 additional air tanks.
With the equipment, Holcomb says the department will be up to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards on SCBA equipment.
