FORNEY, Texas — Local police and firefighters will be honored and recognized during the Forney High School vs. Mesquite Poteet football game on Friday night at City Bank Stadium, the district announced today.
"Stand up with us in thanks if you are able to attend and, if not, imagine for a moment a daily job where your every move is closely watched and where at any moment you could be called to risk your own safety for others," stated the announcement.
The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Honor. Pride. Respect. Dignity. Integrity. All of these are traits we teach in public school athletics. Win or lose we stress the importance of core values to our student-athletes.
These are also core values of our law enforcement and fire personnel; they apply them in our community at the utmost level. The results of a score or a game are not on the line as they apply these values, but rather, real property, personal safety, and sometimes life itself.
Athletics is a training ground for core values. Our public servants are the real-world and real-time models of them in our society.
No time of year provides a more stark reminder of this truth than September.
On September 16th we would like to recognize and thank our local public servants at City Bank Stadium during the Forney vs. Poteet football game.
