Forney man tragically killed in head-on collision on SH 34, three others injured

FORNEY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstance of a fatal head-on collision yesterday that claimed the life of a 25-year-old Forney man.

FORNEY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstance of a fatal head-on collision yesterday that claimed the life of a 25-year-old Forney man.

Around 4 p.m., yesterday, emergency personnel responded to a major head-on collision on State Highway (SH) 34, less than one mile from Farm-to-Market (FM) 1390, in between Scurry and Rosser.

A yellow Chevy pickup truck was traveling northbound on SH 34 and a Chevy Camaro was traveling southbound on SH 34 when, for an as of yet to be determined reason, the two vehicles collided head on, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford who cited preliminary investigation information.

The driver of the Chevy pickup truck was pronounced deceased on scene. He was identified by police as 25-year-old James Fortner of Forney, Texas.

Fortner had just turned 25 on Sunday and, according to friends, had previously lived in the Scurry-Rosser area and attended Scurry-Rosser High School.

The driver of the Camaro was transported to Dallas Presbyterian Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two children in the Camaro were transported to Children's Medical Center of Dallas with non-life threatening injuries.

Bradford says the crash remains under investigation.
