FORNEY, Texas — Two Forney parents were among four people tragically killed in a head-on collision in Central Texas on Wednesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirms.
FORNEY, Texas — Two Forney parents were among four people tragically killed in a head-on collision in Central Texas on Wednesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirms.
Just after noon, on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, a Ford Transit Van was traveling southbound on State Highway 206, approximately four miles northeast of Cross Plains, Texas, in Callahan County, when, according to preliminary crash investigation, it lost control on the wet roadway, crossed into the northbound lane, and crashed head-on into the Mikulik family's vehicle, which was traveling northbound.
48-year-old Bryan Mikulik and 52-year-old Debra Mikulik, both of Forney, Texas, were pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Fred Biddle. Their two daughters, 14-year-old Olivia Mikulik and 15-year-old Alexa Mikulik, were also injured in the crash. Olivia was transported to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, with incapacitating injuries and is listed in critical condition, according to Biddle. Alexa was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas, and is listed in stable condition with non-incapacitating injuries.
Biddle says the crash remains under investigation.
The driver of the Ford van, 37-year-old James Hurley of San Angelo, Texas, was pronounced deceased along with a passenger, 67-year-old Joyce Collier of Brady. Six others in the passenger van, ranging in age from eight to 36, were transported to area hospitals with what were described as non-incapacitating injuries.
The Mikuliks was reportedly visiting their family in San Angelo for the holidays and were returning to their Forney home at the time of the crash.
St. Martin of Tours, where the Mikuliks were parishioners, gathered for Mass on Friday to offer prayers to the family.
The Mikulik family name is well-known in the San Angelo area, according to KTXS. Bryan Mikulik's father, Harvey, owns Mikulik Sausage in San Angelo.
