Forney Police Department Chief Barnes retirement ceremony to be held October 21

FORNEY, Texas — A retirement ceremony for long-time Forney Police Department Chief Rick Barnes will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Forney Municipal Courtroom.

FORNEY, Texas — A retirement ceremony for long-time Forney Police Department Chief Rick Barnes will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Forney Municipal Courtroom.

The ceremony is open to the general public and will be followed by a dessert reception.

Barnes has served the Forney Police Department for 37 years and as its chief since January 1987. He plans to retire on October 31, 2016.

“In his career, Chief Barnes is responsible for implementing and enhancing many police/community partnerships, which still exist today,” stated the City of Forney in a June press release announcing Barnes’ retirement.

“Other significant accomplishments include: Improved relations with community partners, improved relations with law enforcement partners in Kaufman County and North Texas, the development of a working relationship between the City and Police Department and was instrumental in the construction efforts of the new Forney Justice Center in September 2009,” stated the release.

The City of Forney is using Strategic Government Resources in the search for a new chief. The firm was previously used in the search for a new city manager and city attorney.

“The City is extremely grateful to Chief Barnes for his service to both our community and Police Department,” stated the City of Forney.

The Forney Municipal Courtroom is located at 331 South Farm-to-Market (FM) 548.
