FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department is investigating an attempted ATM theft which occurred early Monday morning, August 15, 2016, at the Jackrabbit Quick Stop convenience store.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., a passing motorists called 911 and reported damage to the front of the building. Police later recovered a vehicle believed to be used to ram the building in a possible attempt to steal an ATM inside the business.
Forney Police Department Captain Jason “Rocky” Ray says the department is investigating the incident as an attempted ATM theft.
The vehicle was captured on surveillance video ramming the business at least twice before an individual exits the vehicle and peers into the store through the hole it had created. The individual then flees the scene in the vehicle.
The vehicle was later recovered around 2:30 p.m. less than half-a-mile away on Pacific Street near the Hillcrest Cemetery. The vehicle was left with its motor running and unattended.
Rays says the vehicle had extensive damage to its rear-end and police recovered bricks similar to those at Jackrabbit Quick Stop lodged into the vehicle. Investigators are currently processing the vehicle for additional evidence.
At the time of its recovery, the vehicle, which was registered to a Fort Worth address, had not yet been reported stolen but, after police made contact with the registered owner, it will likely be entered as such with the Fort Worth Police Department. The vehicle’s steering column also reportedly suffered damage indicative of vehicle theft.

Thieves were unable to escape with the ATM in this incident as well.
