Forney Police Department launches voluntary camera registration program to aid in criminal investigations, deter crime

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department has announced a voluntary surveillance video camera registration program, “Forney Community Cam,” to aid in criminal investigations and deter crime.

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department has announced a voluntary surveillance video camera registration program, “Forney Community Cam,” to aid in criminal investigations and deter crime.

Home owners or business owners can privately register their surveillance systems with the department and, if a crime occurs in or near the area of a registered camera, the department will more easily be able to identify possible surveillance footage for voluntary submission.

“The footage could be voluntarily provided by the department to aid in the apprehension and conviction of the parties involved,” stated the department in a release on Wednesday announcing the program.

Registering your information will not provide the police department with direct access to your camera(s) and you will only be contacted if it is believed your camera could contain evidence relevant to a criminal investigation, according to the department.

All information registered through the program will be kept confidential through the police department.

“Video footage is an invaluable asset in identifying suspects and establishing leads in criminal cases,” stated the release. “We invite all residents to join us in our mission to provide the highest level of service to our community.”
