FORNEY, Texas — A gas line was struck in the area of Austin Street and West Church Street near downtown Forney on Monday — prompting some evacuations and road closures in the area.
At approximately 2:35 p.m., a City of Forney Public Works Department crew was operating a backhoe when it struck a two-inch main line on Austin Street.
Firefighters closed Austin Street between West Church Street and Houston Street.
Four people were evacuated from three homes in the area of the leak. A fourth home was evacuated but found to be unoccupied.
Just before 4 p.m., an Atmos Energy repair crew arrived on scene.
