FORNEY, Texas — A four-inch gas main break prompted the closure of a portion of Windmill Farms Boulevard and a shelter in place at Brown Middle School on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., a construction crew struck the gas main on Windmill Farms Boulevard just north of Cobblestone Lane. Windmill Farms Boulevard is closed between Reeder Road and Hawthorn Drive.
Brown Middle School will be in shelter in place until the gas leak can be capped or repaired, according to Forney ISD spokesperson Larry Coker.
The campus’ standard release time is 3:40 p.m.
Coker says parents will be able to pickup their children at the standard pickup times.
Out of an abundance of caution, Coker says children who walk home will be held at the campus until parent pickup or the district has been given the all clear.
“At no point were students or faculty in any danger,” he said.
A CoServ gas representative is on scene and requesting additional resources for a repair.
This is a developing story.
