Heavy rains force closure of roads, more expected overnight

FORNEY, Texas — Kaufman county officials are preparing for more rain overnight and increased chances of flooding.

Weekend rainfall that exceeded 4.5 inches of rain in some areas on Saturday has already closed some county roads, with others in danger of closing overnight.

County Road 133 is partially open but the majority remains closed due to flooding and a partial road collapse. County Road 120 has been closed due to high water. County Road 147 also has areas of high water and flooding.

According to Kaufman County’s Department of Emergency Management, some service roads on US Hwy 175 had to be temporarily closed due to water but are open again for now.

“We are now under a severe thunderstorm watch and could possibly receive up to 6 inches of rain between now and Tuesday,” Steve Howie, Kaufman County’s Emergency Management coordinator told inForney.com Sunday night.

Behind the showers, forecasters are predicting below average temperatures with a high of 50 degrees predicted for Monday and Tuesday.

Officials continue to encourage motorist to turn around and don't drown when navigating flooded roadways.
