SEAGOVILLE, Texas — A high-speed pursuit of a theft suspect from Plano ended in Seagoville on Monday night.
Police say they received a 911 call about a man possibly stealing shingles from a pallet at a home in the area west of Spring Creek Parkway and U.S. Highway 75 in Plano, Texas. Police officers with the Plano Police Department later located the van on southbound U.S. Highway 75 where a traffic stop was attempted.
The man fled southbound and eventually onto eastbound Interstate 20 in Dallas County at speeds of approximately 90 miles per hour.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s helicopter joined the pursuit as it continued onto eastbound U.S. Highway 175 into Seagoville, Texas.
The man exited the highway and traveled northbound on Hall Road into a residential neighborhood where he bailed from the van at the intersection of Hall Road and Shady Lane.
Police say the man was immediately given verbal commands to stop at which point the man complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect’s identity has not been released. He faces charges for evading arrest and theft.
Police say shingle theft is a rising concern especially following hail storms and other roof-damaging weather events which place high demand on shingles.
