TALTY, Texas — An hours-long standoff in Talty ended peacefully Tuesday night.
The incident began around 2:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of Cleaver Lane, also known as County Road 215, in Talty.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart says deputies responded to the home after receiving reports a man made statements suggesting he may harm himself.
The man didn't respond to police officers’ requests to exit the home so a negotiator was called to the home, according to Stewart.
“A negotiator was called to talk to the man to get him the help he needs,” Stewart told inForney.com. “Ultimately, our goal is to achieve a safe resolution.”
At approximately 5:30 p.m., the man came out of the home and was taken into custody without further incident.
Stewart says the man will be taken to an area hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation. No charges will be filed.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, K9 units, Talty Police Department, and several Kaufman County Constable’s Offices responded to the scene.
The standoff delayed bus routes and resulted in the closure of Cleaver Lane while police were on scene.
