KAUFMAN - Kaufman County swore in its newest member of the judiciary today as Joseph Russell took the bench of the Kaufman County Court at Law.
Joseph Russell won his Republican Primary runoff election in early June, defeating former Criminal District Attorney Rick Harrison.
Russell takes the bench, filling the vacancy left by the departure of Judge Tracy Gray, who stepped down to run for the newly created 489th District Court, a move that has reshaped the local judiciary.
Russell faces no opponent in the November general election. He fills the unexpired term that expires December 31, 2026.
