KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Citizens' Commission is set to meet and gather public input on the Confederate monument at the Kaufman County Courthouse.
Public notice was published setting the public meeting for August 20, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., at the Kaufman Church of Christ, located at 27 Oak Creek Drive in Kaufman.
Last month, the Kaufman County Commissioners' Court unanimously approved the formation of the 15-member Monument Citizens Commission — to which they would appoint its members.
"Kaufman County Citizens' Commission to consider matters related to the monument standing at the entrance to the Courthouse," reads the meetings agenda. "The Citizens' Commission will consider all information about the monument and gather written and oral public input on the monument."
Items on the commission's agenda include the nomination and election of commission co-chairs and a secretary. The agenda also lists "general discussion" and "set meeting schedule" but, does not specifically list a section for public comment or a public hearing.
