KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β The Kaufman County Citizens' Monument Commission has announced county-wide precinct forums and meetings.
"These meetings provide Kaufman County residents and other interested parties an opportunity to verbalize their opinion concerning the monument standing at the entrance to the Kaufman County Courthouse," read a statement from the commission. "Each forum is open to the public to participate, or listen to the speakerβs opinions."
The county-wide schedule will allow the commission to meet residents throughout the county before meeting collectively to determine a recommendation to be presented to the Kaufman County Commissioners' Court. That recommendation is expected to be presented before the court on November 10, 2020.
βThe first 25 signing in at the meetings who are interested in voicing their opinion whether to leave the monument in place, relocate it, or remove it have an option to speak for three minutes in precinct town hall meetings or in county wide meetings," stated Kaufman County Citizens' Monument Commission Co-Chair J.C. Jackson.
βOur goal is to provide an opportunity for everyone who is interested to have a voice regarding the monument decision,β stated fellow Co-Chair, Bill Hart.
Those who do not want to present their opinion verbally in the meetings have the opportunity to complete a one-page survey to voice their view at the meetings, or you can request a survey by email at kaufmanmonument@gmail.com.
