KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court on Monday adopted an order to authorize Memorial Day fireworks sales.

The order allows retail fireworks permit holders to sell fireworks to the public in celebration of Memorial Day. Firework sales will be permitted between May 24, 2017, and midnight on May 29, 2017.

The order could be rescinded in the event the Texas Fire Service determines drought conditions exist in the county.

2015 legislature allowed, with commissioners’ court adoption of an order, for the sale of fireworks on three additional holiday seasons: Texas Independence Day in late February/early March, San Jacinto Day in mid April, and Memorial Day.

“We want our citizens to enjoy their summer and upcoming celebrations,” stated the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office in response to the order. “We ask that you be considerate of your neighbors and exercise extreme caution when discharging fireworks!”
