TERRELL, Texas — The Kaufman County COVID-19 testing site in Terrell closed today after the center reached max capacity, according to county officials.

The center is expected to re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at a larger site within the Shops at Terrell, although that site has not yet been determined.

"Due to an overwhelming response, no more testing is available for TODAY, Mon. Jan. 10, for the free COVID-19 tests at the Shops at Terrell," read a statement from the county.

When testing resumes tomorrow, there will be rapid tests and 48- to 72-hour PCR tests available.

Today, residents were reporting wait times up to two-and-a-half hours to three hours and expressed interest in a drive-thru testing center in lieu of the walk-up center that had been established in response to rising COVID-19 cases due to the fast-spreading Omicron variant.
