When Pam Corder, a beacon of dedication in our community, began working with Kaufman County, she encountered a gentleman and his wife who were struggling to pay their electricity bill. Their story, like many others, touched her deeply. There wasn’t a clear answer as to who could help. Undeterred, Pam immediately went to work organizing resources and found a clear path to a central location where people who needed help could go.
Over the years, the relentless efforts of the Kaufman County Resource Connection have transformed lives. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to 'helping the residents of Kaufman County find help for themselves and others in need.' Their mission is to 'build a Healthier Community by connecting those in need to vital resources and make an everlasting impact.'
This organization, which operates through a board of six people, is a testament to the power of collaboration. It meets at a space provided by Trinity Valley Community College in Kaufman, a symbol of the community's support. Members who often attend include Catholic Charities, North Texas Behavioral Authority, Texas Health Presbyterian, Kaufman County Juvenile Probation Department, United Way, Be Happy, local faith leaders, and community leaders, all of whom play a crucial role in the Kaufman County Resource Connection's work.
Trinity Valley Community College leases a building to Kaufman County Resource Connection next to Texas Health Presbyterian in Kaufman. This lease is a testment to the dedication of Pam Corder and the relationship between Kaufman County and Trinity Valley Community College. This two story building allows for non-profits to have a centralized location to offer a hand up to those who are in need.
Kaufman County Judge Jakie Allen told inForney.com that the Kaufman County Resource Connection is a blessing to the county.
“It’s a blessing that we have all the non-profits in our county to help those who need these services,” said Judge Allen. “Thank you to Trinity Valley Community College for affording us this facility to allow these non-profits to be here and assist our citizens.”
The Kaufman County Resource Connection is not just a hub of information, but a beacon of knowledge. It gathers data from various local groups and disseminates it to other non-profits and the community through digital platforms. Recently, they have shared valuable insights on grant writing workshops, infant care classes, financial literacy, community events, and child abuse prevention education. This knowledge has the power to transform lives, demonstrating the Kaufman County Resource Connection's commitment to community welfare.
At the May Community Coalition meeting, Catholic Charities discussed an infant adoption program and care. A local faith-based food bank called Faith at Work Ministries also spoke about the 9,000 people it feeds weekly in Kaufman County and surrounding areas. Both organizations shared information with the attendees that can be shared within their circles and for those who need assistance.
Pam Corder told inForney.com that she saw the need here in Kaufman County after community resource coalition meetings weren’t impacting as many people as they could, and it was laid upon her heart to centralize resources and help get the word to as many people as possible.
“For more than ten years the community resource coalition has met, but in recent years the need within Kaufman County has grown exponentially, and we needed a centralized location,” said Corder. “Thanks to Trinity Valley Community College, our dreams of centralizing were met and today the community has a place to come for any and all help they might need.”
Corder says she gets referral calls from law enforcement, churches, community leaders, and other non-profit organizations with needs in the community and that having this centralized location helps connect.
“We receive calls at all times of the day and night, and we are now able to have the recipients come to our location and receive food, clothing, and referrals to other agencies where they can get the support they need,” said Corder.
Corder says that she wants all Kaufman County residents to know that there is help available when in need. You can visit the Resource Connecetion website to find out more information. If you or someone you know needs assistance, Kaufman County Resource Connection is just a phone call away.
