At 5:49 a.m., the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in regard to three black males entering the Shell gas station on Helms Trail and Interstate 20 in an attempt to steal the ATM, according to Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Investigator Jolie Stewart.
The men reported concealed their faces and were not reported to be armed.
The gas station sustained damage to the front door and the brick facade near the door in the suspect’s unsuccessful attempt at forcibly removing the ATM.
The three suspects fled on foot and remain at large following a search of the area.
Clerks inside the store at the time locked themselves in the bathroom and called 911. No injuries were reported.
On Friday, February 12, 2016, several individuals attempted to steal the ATM at the same location and, when unsuccessful, robbed the owner of the cash in the register.
