FORNEY, Texas — A longtime Kaufman County Sheriff's Office captain has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into his arrest this weekend in Forney for driving while intoxicated (DWI).
The DWI charge against Captain Fred Klingelberger has since been dropped after a municipal judge ordered him released from the City of Forney jail after ruling there was insufficient probable cause for the arrest, Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart told inForney.com.
The sheriff's office was notified of Klingelberger's arrest on August 4, 2018, and he was placed on administrative leave pending the results of the internal investigation.
After the judge's ruling, the charge for DWI was rejected, City of Forney Attorney Jon Thatcher told inForney.com.
Klingelberger has been with the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office for more than 20 years, recently graduated the FBI's National Academy and Leadership Command College at the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, and previously served as the department's media spokesperson.
A request for the incident report, dash-cam video, and any available officer-worn body camera video has been requested by inForney.com.
Additionally, inForney.com reached out to Klingelberger for comment on Tuesday morning but had not received a reply at the time of press.
