SEVEN POINTS, Texas — A motorcyclist from Mabank, Texas, was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on October 13, 2023.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the fatal crash occurred at 2:53 p.m. on Farm to Market 85 at Farm to Market 2613, about 2.8 miles west of Seven Points. The posted speed limit on the dry road was 55 mph.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Ray Robert Sickinger, of Mabank, Texas. He was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead by Dr. Daniel Bywaters at UT Health Gun Barrel, TX.
The driver of the 2008 Kenworth Truck Tractor towing a trailer involved in the crash was a 33-year-old resident of Merryville, Louisiana. He did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, the tractor-trailer was traveling east on FM 85 when the driver failed to yield the right of way while turning left onto FM 2613. This resulted in Sickinger's motorcycle, which was traveling west on FM 85, colliding with the tractor-trailer.
Sickinger was a business owner and a good-hearted and hard working man, a family member told inForney.com.
The investigation, led by Trooper M. Carranza of the DPS Athens, is ongoing, police say.
