COLLEGE MOUND, Texas — A man was airlifted Thursday night to a Dallas-area hospital after sustaining what firefighters described as "traumatic injuries" in a fireworks-related incident in eastern Kaufman County.

COLLEGE MOUND, Texas — A man was airlifted Thursday night to a Dallas-area hospital after sustaining what firefighters described as "traumatic injuries" in a fireworks-related incident in eastern Kaufman County.

At 9:19 p.m., the College Mound Fire Department responded to the 5500 block of County Road 120 for a man in his 50s who had sustained traumatic injuries due to fireworks, according to a statement from the College Mound Fire Department.

"The victim said he was loading artillery type fireworks in a tube and firing them," stated the department. "One exploded inside the tube causing injuries to his hands and forearms."

The man was flown to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

"College Mound Fire Department would like to remind people that handling and firing of fireworks are hazardous," read the statement. "Extreme caution should be used to avoid personal injury as well as the potential of causing a fire."
