KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman-area man has been charged with multiple counts of intoxication assault for his involvement in a wreck which injured a mother and three children on Sunday.

KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman-area man has been charged with multiple counts of intoxication assault for his involvement in a wreck which injured a mother and three children on Sunday.

62-year-old Raul Belmontes Rodriguez is facing a charge for driving while intoxicated and four counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

Police say witnesses observed Rodriguez traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 175 when he entered the crossover at Fair Road, failed to yield or stop for incoming traffic, and t-boned a westbound traveling vehicle causing it to overturn.

A mother and three children were in the vehicle which overturned. All four were transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas, with what were described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The wreck occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Sunday and less than a mile from Rodriguez’s home address.

Police obtained a search warrant for Rodriguez’s blood and later booked him on the charges, according to Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black. Rodriguez is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $82,500.
