ABLES SPRINGS, Texas — A man overturned his truck early Monday morning after striking a pack of feral hogs in Ables Springs, Texas, in northern Kaufman County.
The man was traveling north on Farm-to-Market (FM) 429 when he struck a pack of five feral hogs which caused him to leave the roadway and overturn into a ditch. The truck came to a rest on its passenger side and temporarily entrapped the driver.
The accident occurred right in front of the Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department in the 30000 block of FM 429. Firefighters say they were inside the station at the time of the crash and heard the truck overturn, rushed outside, and helped extricate the man from the overturned truck.
All five feral hogs were killed in the crash. The man was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, by CareFlite ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, according to firefighters.
The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department responded as mutual aid. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
