KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A nine-year-old Henderson County girl was killed in a boating accident on Cedar Creek Reservoir on Friday and a memorial fund has been established to assist the family with funeral expenses.

The young girl fell overboard a pontoon boat at approximately 7:15 p.m. and apparently struck the rear of the boat nears its motor, according to investigators.

In an interview with CBS DFW, Captain Game Warden Mike Hanson described the incident as “purely an accident” and said alcohol was not a factor.

The young girl’s father is a five year veteran of the Seven Points Fire Department.

“It is with the deepest sorrow and pain that we report that one of our own fireman and family suffered the loss of their young child in a boating accident,” the department stated on Facebook. “At this time we are asking for the support of our community to help our brother's family.”

A memorial fund will be established at an area bank following the holiday weekend to assist the family with funeral expenses. In the meantime, donations may be dropped off at the Seven Points fire station or donated via the Seven Points Fire Department PayPal fund, here.

“Please keep this family and our Department in your prayers as we go through the next few days,” stated the department.
