FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School Golf Team will host a Ladies High School Golf Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Waterview Golf Course in Rowlett, Texas. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include varsity lady golfers from a number of high schools in the North Texas area.
FORNEY, Texas — The North Forney High School Golf Team will host a Ladies High School Golf Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Waterview Golf Course in Rowlett, Texas. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include varsity lady golfers from a number of high schools in the North Texas area.
The tournament is being sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau and includes a fundraiser to benefit the Susan G. Komen Organization. The North Forney High School Ladies Golf Team is selling pink Titlest ProV 1 golf balls for the event. All proceeds from the sale of the golf balls will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Texas Farm Bureau donated all of the pink golf balls for the tournament.
"Right now we have about 10 teams signed up to compete in the tournament," said North Forney High School Golf Coach Tommie Mankins. "With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to raise funds to help support the Susan G. Komen Organization continue their efforts to find a cure for breast cancer. We have had a tremendous response so far and we are hoping to raise a lot of money for the organization as well as put on an outstanding tournament."
The Susan G. Komen Organization was founded in 1982 by Komen's sister, Nancy G. Brinker, in an effort to end breast cancer forever. To date, the organization has invested more than $2.6 billion in research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. The organization's efforts have helped reduce death rates from breast cancer by 37 percent between 1990-2013; and have helped improve the five-year relative survival rate for early stage cancers in the U.S. from about 74 to 99 percent.*
