TERRELL, Texas — Police in Terrell are investigating a fiery crash early Monday morning in which one person was airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., the Terrell police and fire departments responded to the crash at the intersection of North Virgina Street, North Frances Street, and East and West McCoulskey Street.
The vehicle involved in the crash was traveling northbound on North Virgina when it crossed over North Frances, struck the ditch on West McCoulskey Street, crashed through a barrier pole, and into a tree in the front yard of a residence in the 1400 block of North Frances Street.
Neighbors, who were awoken by the sounds of the crash, tell inForney.com the vehicle erupted in flames after striking the tree. Several neighbors used a fire extinguisher to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived while others attempted to free the entrapped driver from the wreckage.
The driver was transported by ground ambulance to the parking lot of Goggan’s Funeral Home where a landing zone had been established for an inbound medical helicopter. The driver was further transported by air to a Dallas-area hospital.
The driver’s current condition is unknown.
