TERRELL, Texas — An overturned 18-wheeler forced the closure of westbound Spur 557 in Terrell as crews continue work Wednesday morning to reopen the highway.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., officials report the 18-wheeler veered into the highway median, overturned, and spilled diesel fuel — prompting a HAZMAT cleanup.
According to Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie, approximately 75 to 100 gallons on diesel spilled.
Howie says crews were also forced to offload the trailer's cargo by hand before heavy-duty wreckers uprighted and recovered the tractor-trailer and cleared the roadway.
