MESQUITE, Texas — A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 20 on Tuesday night.

At approximately 8:54 p.m., on April 25, 2017, the Mesquite Police Department and Mesquite Fire Department responded to the 14600 block of eastbound Interstate 20, just east of Lawson Road and west of the Kaufman-Dallas County line, for a crash involving a pedestrian.

Police say a 49-year-old Forney man, driving a 2004 Ford pickup, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 when he struck a pedestrian who was walking on the roadway. Three additional vehicles drove over the pedestrian, according to police.

The pedestrian, who died at the scene, has not yet been positively identified by police.

The Mesquite Police Department says this is the fifth fatality crash of 2017 which has resulted in six deaths as compared to six fatality crashes for the same period in 2016 which also resulted in six deaths.

As of 12:15 a.m., the Mesquite Police Department Traffic Unit remains on scene investigating the crash.

The right two lanes of eastbound Interstate 20 are closed. The left lane remains open.
