KAUFMAN, Texas — UPDATE [Mar. 12] — The Texas Department of Publics Safety has identified the deceased driver of the Rav4 as 73-year-old Matthew Todd of Kaufman, Texas.
ORIGINAL [Mar. 11] — Police say a driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic before turning onto State Highway 34, just north of Kaufman, and being struck by an 18-wheeler.
Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford tells inForney.com, according to preliminary investigation, a Toyota Rav4 was traveling southbound on Farm-to-Market (FM) 2728 when, as of yet to be determined reasons, failed to yield to the right-of-way and turned in front of an 18-wheeler which was northbound on State Highway (SH) 34.
The driver of the Rav4, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.
Bradford says the investigation remains ongoing.
