TERRELL - The Terrell Police Department has invited the community to attend the pinning ceremony for Terrell’s new Police Chief, Arley Sansom, on Tuesday, November 19th, at 2 p.m.
Earlier this month, the Terrell City Council unanimously accepted the recommendation to appoint Arley Sansom as the new Police Chief. Sansom, who has been with the department for 37 years, had been serving as the Interim Chief since the retirement of Police Chief Ken McKeown.
The pinning ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in the Rosenbaum Room at the Terrell Police Headquarters at 1100 N. State Highway 34.
The nationwide search drew 30 applicants from six states. The pool was narrowed to four individuals, who were granted interviews by a panel that included City Manager Mike Sims, former Dallas Police Chief David Brown, Council members, representatives of the Terrell Police Officers Association, and the City Administration.
Sansom graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2019 and received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M Commerce in 2021.
"I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving the citizens of Terrell in this new role. The success of any police department is contingent upon the professionalism, training, and support of its staff. I am committed to providing leadership to our entire TPD force, including civilian and sworn and the Department of Animal Control, as we work collectively to ensure we maintain our reputation as a highly respected law enforcement agency," said Chief Sansom.
